Presenting Cinqueanni: the Valdobbiadene Prosecco that defies time

After five years resting on the lees, four of which were spent in the protective womb of the autoclave, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Cinqueanni finally makes its début. This novel creation from the Ruggeri Winery is destined to challenge the commonly accepted beliefs of the sensory limitations of Prosecco.

This is a unique wine, the culmination of years of research and testament to the spirit of innovation that has always characterised the winery.

Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Cinqueanni, the first Prosecco in its category to have spent four years in an autoclave and to be presented to the public five years after being harvested. Cinqueanni is a bold project grounded within a clearly-developed strategy. “Mindful of the interesting developments seen in the 1995 harvest, we were inspired to undertake this project based on the 2014 vintage which possessed great acidity and proved difficult to tame,” explains Paolo Bisol, son of the founder of Ruggeri Winery and creator of this wine. “We are very proud of the result achieved by our team, and Cinqueanni has been well worth waiting for.”

The timeline: 2014-2019

After the harvest at the end of September, the wine underwent the first fermentation under the careful and watchful eye of oenologist Fabio Roversi, and was subsequently transferred to the autoclave in spring 2015.

Once the second fermentation was initiated the long wait began, culminating in bottling which took place in March 2019.

The Cinqueanni grapes come from a small plot located within a historic vineyard where centuries-old vines produce bunches with exceptional organoleptic properties.

A vintage of great character: finesse and tension

With its very first tasting Cinqueanni proved to have exceptional character and great finesse. The lively perlage rises with vigour in the glass with the bubbles chasing each other as if in a dance before crowning the surface in a thin foam. The predominant fruity bouquet of white peach is accompanied by floral notes of sweet acacia and a very delicate hint of magnolia flowers. In the mouth it is dry, fresh and inviting with the first sip leading quickly to several more. Sweet almond and a slight hint of cedar come through on the finish.

Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Cinqueanni will be available from July 2019 in a limited run of just 4,500 bottles, each of which will be presented in its own decorative box.
