Brut by vocation, strong in character and a tribute to the famed Cartizze vineyards, Ruggeri has crafted the first Millesimato of its renowned Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG by selecting the finest grapes from one of the most promising recent vintages. The result is an elegant, well-balanced wine which gains its strong and decisive character from prolonged resting on the lees and which celebrates this historic winery’s tireless pursuit of new horizons in wine making and beyond.
A tribute to Cartizze
Brut by vocation
The new Millesimato embodies Ruggeri’s pioneering spirit. Traditionally, Cartizze sparkling are made in a dry version, which, despite the name, is sweeter. Since 2018, Ruggeri has chosen to explore the outermost limits of the possible by creating a bold, proud brut with a residual sugar content of 8 grams/litre – less than a third that of the dry versions. The result is a perfectly balanced wine with surprisingly distinctive mineral notes. Boasting a character that is bold yet also refined, it lends itself to a broader range of food pairings and allows for increasingly exotic combinations. The decision to produce this wine was made as it aligns perfectly with the growing trend for sparkling wines with lower residual sugar, as is the case with the dryer brut versions.
From the vine to the winery...
For the first Cartizze Brut Millesimato, Ruggeri selected the finest Cartizze sparkling base wines from the latest 2023 vintage, which benefitted from a dry winter and a rainy summer. Conditions were challenging for growers but with tenacity the vintage has nevertheless yielded very high-quality grapes. Ruggeri’s oenologists have described it as one of the most promising in recent memory with a prominent natural acid component which is essential for crafting sparkling wines with a strong character and enhanced aromatic intensity.
The first Cartizze Brut Millesimato spent six months in autoclaves before being bottled in June 2024. After a further three months of bottle ageing it’s now ready to impress even the most discerning of wine lovers
This is the Ruggeri Method, an all-encompassing winemaking philosophy that embraces the entire production chain as well as the ageing process, conducted first in autoclaves and then in the bottle for periods that far exceed what is considered usual for Prosecco Superiore. The Ruggeri Method reflects the winery’s ceaseless quest for the highest quality which is reflected in the success of some of the winery’s most prized Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCGs, starting with the Giustino B. and Vecchie Viti millesimato wines. This visionary approach has now been applied to the winery’s first Cartizze Brut Millesimato.
... to the table
Cartizze Brut Millesimato 2023 stands out for its elegant, floral character that enhances the mineral and savoury notes typical of Cartizze. Velvety on the palate and enlivened by an exquisitely fine and persistent perlage, the new Cartizze Brut possesses great balance with aromatic notes and fragrant aromas of summer pears, white flower petals and wild herbs.
A sure-fire success as an aperitif and for celebrating the most refined occasions, it provides a sophisticated pairing with fish, shellfish, and vegetable-based dishes. The new Millesimato also pairs beautifully with traditional dishes such as seafood risotto, as well as more delicate and experimental international creations, from couscous to ceviche.
Ruggeri’s first Cartizze Brut Millesimato is proof-positive of the winery’s ambitious and audacious research journey that seeks to explore the maximum expression of its region. It exemplifies the winery’s tireless quest for renewal and innovation in the pursuit of quality and the values that have always been Ruggeri’s hallmark.
