Beyond limits, beyond borders… where few dare to venture. This is the motto of Ruggeri, the historic Valdobbiadene-based winery which has always been synonymous with groundbreaking innovation, from the development of new winemaking techniques to the protection of the environment and Terroir. It is precisely this environment – the four elements of Nature – that has inspired Ruggeri’s first LIMITLESS project: the Winery has adorned a bottle of Quartese Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG with a truly visionary label.
In the new design, air, water, earth and fire become light – a distinctive graphic and tactile experience, conferred by a masterful balance of materials, forms and colours. The result is a powerful message and a fitting homage to the Valdobbiadene area, which gives life to one of the world’s most renowned sparkling wines.
Conceived to appeal to millennials, LIMITLESS combines design and storytelling which starts with the selection of the wine itself: Quartese. A Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG with a distinctly Brut soul, it’s widely appreciated by the new generation of connoisseurs of superior-quality wines.
At the heart of the concept design lies the number 4. It represents the four elements of nature, primordial ingredients that shape our world, and which, in the case of Valdobbiadene, are perfectly balanced giving life to superior quality vineyards and wines. Another key feature of the design is the letter Q, standing for Quartese. The bottle’s emblem encircles the Ruggeri logo and focuses attention on it.
The design
Red flames emblazoned in red foil with micro-engraved detailing merge, creating plays of light and shadow which recall the dancing flames of Panevin, the traditional local winter festival. During this annual event, local legend has it that the smoke from the traditional bonfire heading east at sunrise was a sign of good luck, heralding prosperity and an abundant harvest.
The blue waves animate the label with pearl hues. They symbolise the meandering flow of the Piave river, whose braided course carved out the so-called Duplaviis Valley, which is the etymological origin of the name Valdobbiadene. To obtain the flowing effect of water a textured laminate displays alternating tones ranging from metallic silver to midnight blue.
For the Earth a rough-textured embossing on a pewter background was used, with the original design inspired by the very soil found in Ruggeri’s vineyards. It’s a unique soil, renowned for its incredible fertility since time immemorial. Marine in origin, today it boasts extraordinary biodiversity and provides the perfect habitat for raising healthy, vigorous vines.
The representation of Air was created using a light, dynamic motif on a shaded background which evokes the sky. It’s an elegant reference to the breeze that constantly wafts across the hillsides of Valdobbiadene, conferring on the grapes their famed aroma and fragrance.
At the centre of the label, almost as if at the intersection of the four elements, the Q of Quartese stands proud. Along with other graphic components on the label, the lettering has been coated in an invisible fluorescent paint which, after sunset, glows to reveal the bottle’s fifth element: light, synonymous with ingenuity, curiosity and knowledge. So light is the fifth element, the quintessence, that certain something that allows one to achieve greater enlightenment. It’s that spark of intuition, innovative spirit and pioneering approach that has forever been Ruggeri’s hallmark.
